How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated at the top of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster. 1. Engine Speed Sensor The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, so that it can activate the spark and injectors. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when I turn the engine on without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump out. The 4th one remains closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else. I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is plugged in, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine. I'm not certain what to do, as i think i've pretty much eliminated everything else. But i am afraid i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please chime in! TIA! 3. Fuel Pump The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them – simply put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms. 4. If the sensor fails, it can cause problems for the transmission and the rest of the car's components. The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring.
